Following the NICAS Bouldering (National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme) curriculum, our Junior Club is a termly course that aims to take young climbers from being complete beginners through to being competent and confident climbers.

Participants on this course will begin to work their way through NICAS Bouldering Level 1, "New Boulderer". The learning outcomes for Level 1 include learning how to use the walls safely, being able to demonstrate some basic climbing techniques, and completing some coach-selected challenges. Under the guidance of their coaches, young climbers will work through these outcomes at their own pace, and upon completing all of the outcomes, participants will receive a certificate in recognition of their achievements. (Please note: most climbers take longer than one term to complete Level 1, and each subsequent level contains more content and therefore takes longer to complete!)

Participation in our Junior Club course requires registering your child for the NICAS Bouldering scheme (this will be done by our coaches) and the purchase of their NICAS Bouldering log book, which we will use to keep track of their progress. This costs £7.50, which will be collected when you arrive for your first session.

DEVELOPMENT

SQUAD

NIBAS Level 4

10 - 18 Years

As our young climbers make their way through the NIBAS Scheme they will move from Junior Club into our Development Squad which has a higher focus on performance climbing skills, tactics and training.

Development Squad runs on Monday evenings.

Squad members are encouraged to enter local competitions and look for opportunities to climb outdoors.

Entry to the Squad is by invitation only and achieving NIBAS L4 does not imply an automatic invitation. If you would like further information on potentially becoming a part of the Squad please ask to speak with one of our Senior Coaches.

ACADEMY
NIBAS Level 5
12 - 18 Years

For those youngsters who display an extraordinary talent on the climbing wall, we have an Academy. This club focuses on the advanced technical, as well as the physical, aspects of climbing. A positive attitude, motivation and commitment, as well as ability, are a key requirement for members of The Project Climbing Centre Academy. Academy members are expected to compete in a variety of climbing competitions at regional, national and international level.

Entry to the Academy is by invitation only and is subject to trials. Achieving NIBAS L5 does not imply an automatic invitation. If you would like further information on potentially becoming a part of the Academy please ask to speak with one of our Senior Coaches.

Intro to bouldering

Beginners aged 14+

This is the session for anyone who is 14 or over with no experience of bouldering who wants to come and climb unsupervised and/or supervise other climbers. The course is an hour long session with one of our instructors and focuses on how to use the climbing walls safely. This course is obligatory if you would like to use The Project Climbing Centre but have never climbed before (unless you come in as the guest of a registered climber).

Once you have done this session, you are free to use the centre unsupervised whenever you like, and can also sign in and supervise other climbers. Under 18's will need to attend a follow up sign off session with a parent or guardian (usually on a Sunday). After which they can use the centre unsupervised but not able to supervise other people.

Inductions can be booked up to 14 days before the event. Please check the link below or get in contact to find out when our next available inductions are.

Cost: £20 per person

  • Cost includes entry, shoe hire, and instructor supervision.

  • Sessions will run for a minimum of 2 participants

JUNIOR SIGN-OFF

14-17 Years

If you are a regular climber aged between 14 and 17, you may want to be able to come and climb without adult supervision. To do this, you will need to complete our Junior Sign-Off. These sessions are 60 minutes long and give you the opportunity to show us that you know how to use the centre safely.

During the session, you will need to demonstrate that you:

  • Have a good knowledge of the hazards and risks associated with Bouldering

  • Have a good level of movement skills and techniques

  • Are able to provide an explanation of the areas of the facility and their use

This is an assessment session only; no instruction will be given. If you need more instruction to get you to a standard where you can climb unsupervised, you should book our Junior Induction & Sign-Off.

Please note that we strongly recommend you take part in a Junior Induction first as this will increase your chances of passing your sign-off.

Cost:          £15 per person

(Included in cost of Intro to Bouldering session)

  • Cost includes entry, shoe hire and instruction

  • A parent or guardian of the junior signing-off must attend this session.

All under 18s must be supervised by a registered, competent adult climber

If you are unsure of what this means please call us before coming to the centre in order to avoid disappointment!

Registered adult climbers can supervise a maximum of 2 under 18s (aged 4+) at a time.
